The PE department is off to a great start this school year. Your students are learning how to live a healthy lifestyle through practicing the fundamentals of sports and hard work. During PE we warm up, practice a skill such as dribbling, then play a sport. So far this year we have played basketball, baseball, football, soccer, and fun games such as capture the flag and dodge ball.

Currently, we are in the middle of starting an afterschool basketball program; several of the middle school students have shown an interest and are participating regularly. The goal of the basketball program is for Hebrew Academy students eventually to play against other schools in games and compete with other students. We have about fifteen students signed up for the program, and the students' individual basketball skills are improving. As a team, we will soon be able to compete thanks to our continuous hard work. The boys are looking forward to our first opportunity to play another team!

During the basketball program, students will be learning how to play basketball, but will also be learning how to run an offense and defense as a team. As their coach, I want the students to know that we cannot win without a team effort and that building cooperation and communication skills are a major focus of the program. These skills will help them not only on the court, but also in the classroom.

This is my first year at Hebrew Academy Huntington Beach, but already I feel that this is my home. I feel fortunate to be a part of this wonderful community.
