Transitioning to Middle School

Monday, 4 March, 2019 - 5:53 pm

At the Hebrew Academy, we offer a special program to help our fifth grade students transition successfully to Middle School.  Middle School is a time of tremendous physical, emotional, and intellectual development. Helping our students transition smoothly and easily ensures their academic, as well as their social and emotional success!

Once a week our fifth graders are taught by one of our Middle School teachers. Special classes in science, math, English, and history are designed to model and teach those organizational and executive functioning skills that are key to success in Middle School. Topics include goal setting, time management, personal responsibility, and interpersonal communication. Students also have the opportunity to be in our brand new XSTREAM Lab and attend special assemblies, such as this week’s Upper School Rosh Chodesh program.

This program is designed to ease the transition for students and ensure that they have the full range of knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in our Middle School at The Hebrew Academy. It provides a “taste” of the curriculum, it’s fun for students, it builds their excitement and helps alleviate fears of the unknown, and it enables them to get to know our Middle School teachers. It also enables our Middle School teachers to get to know the students coming up! Our teachers are thrilled with this year’s fifth grade class and are looking forward to launching them into an amazing sixth grade year next year!

We are very proud to be able to offer such a unique program that helps ensure that every fifth grader is prepared for the academic rigor, as well as the social and emotional requirements of Middle School and beyond!
